| | Cross Training Day? I got to coach my oldest sons soccer team for 1 1/2 hours, so it was more of a plyometric workout. I also replaced the water heater (full body lift). |

Whats even better is Wendy and the boys are swimming up here today and brought me a powerade and a sub. Thanks! |

Six miles, beautiful morning, 75-80 degrees. I got a new watch/gps; a Motorola Motoactiv. I have seen a lot of reviews good and bad mostly good though. Most of the bad reviews are for the battery life. I used the GPS and the MP3 with a wired headset ( it will run a bluetooth headset). I avereged 8:33 miles with a total time of 51.22. I think it used about 15% of my battery for that run; which is great in my book. On the marathon I wont use the GPS just the MP3 and I will track my own splits on the stopwatch it has built in. It is definitely nice though on the training runs to use the GPS and have the instant pace and average pace along with elevation and the 1 mile split differences. Plus it plays music and if you have it set up right it will record which songs you run better to and play those when its set to the performance setting. I think I'm gonna like this watch. Sorry if I rambled.

Umm OUCH! lol I think I was taking 20 miles for granted.....who does that? I left at 7 and felt good through about 8:35 and 10 miles. I got an IT band twinge in my knee..so I stopped and stretched it out at my hip and after about 20 seconds I felt the knot in my hip give and the pain left my knee. I thoroughly underestimated the heat and no shade.. and went through my water way quicker than I planned so my lovely bride brought me some accelerade at about mile 15 or so. Then as I got to mile 17 she showed up again with my youngest and his mountain bike and two ice filled water bottles! It was like heaven for about 1 min. I got to mile 18 and my feet started hurting more than the normal mileage ache. It hurt soo bad I really walked most of the way in. I averaged around 11:30 miles with all of my walking...not what I wanted but then I learned a couple of things.
1. 70 miles of relatively short to mid runs is not enough to guage a shoe for long mileage.
2. 85 degree heat with no shade really kicks my ass.
3. I have the best family ever who are willing to support my freakishly dumb endeavors!
Peace out Homies!!!!!

Semi easy 4, it was good to get out and stretch out the muscles. Beautiful morning the whole family and my sis in-law Lori went out. Everyone ran at least a mile. I can hardly wait til Kaden starts running more and is pushing me to run harder.

Quick Monday 5K, warm 74 degrees 40% humidity. It felt good stretched out and ran a 8:22 AVP. Keeping it short runs this week to prep for another long run this weekend. I got new shoes too :-) they were 20% off and they are closer to the Omni 9's as far as fit and function.

Really easy day, 1 mile walk, 2 mile easy easy pace run just to get the blood flowing. I'm thinking I need to go get a chiropractic massage. My back is knotted all over and so are my glutes. Still the run was nice I talked to my buddy the whole way and it helped my ego that I wasn't breathing hard while he was straining for breath. |

Chiropractor/massage vist, went to the Body doc for a massage and realignment. My back and hips are so tight I need 2 more massages before the marathon. I have been having a lot of pain in the mornings in my lower back and hips. I turns out I have some huge knots and one treatment isn't enough. The adjustment after the massage was amazing! boom crack a lacky! Anyway I can still run, and will tomorrow night. On the bright side I woke up today with no pain in my lower back and hips.
The funny thing is that even with the morning pain I could still run and not feel any great pains while doing it. Weird huh....

Another 20 down YAY! Much better than last week. Went to bed late, about 12:30, got up at 6:15 had a granola bar, gel, electrolyte caps, and a couple of sips of the sugar gatorade. I took three 8 oz bottles(two with Ice water and one with gatorade), 2 gels and six electrolyte caps. I wore my old Omni 9's because they are tried and true. I started about 0630 and I had a lot of trepidation because of last weeks meltdown... damn running-psych. Anyway it was a great temp about 60 degrees. I ran the same route and really was worried because everything all of the usual little aches and pains were intensified (damn runnig-psych). At about mile 4 i ran into a couple of huge hawks almost literally. What an awesome sight and it wasn't the only time I saw them. That put my mind at ease and I started enjoying my run. Around mile 9 I saw some great Pronghorn Antelope Bucks and right after that the Hawks showed up again. I din't realize it the first time I ran this route but there is about 3 miles of slight uphill from 7-10. Its not a lot but now I know why I was a little more tired than I should've been at the turn around. Anyway I texted Wendy at 10 and told her I didn't need any water. Between 10 and 15 it was pretty much zombie running, at 16 I walked for a minute or two because my hips were so tight I could barely run. After they loosened up I broke through the wall at 17 going uphill and managed a 9:03 at 18. I texted Wendy at 18.5 and asked her to get the Ice bath ready which she did with 20lbs of ice. It was freaking beautiful to sit in that bath. She also brought me a coke for my recovery! What a sweetheart. total elevation gain was about 600 ft and I averaged about a 10:05 pace which is 1:30 faster per mile than last week. Thank goodness for that!

So started out as a recovery run for first 2 miles 10:15, 10:10 and then my adrenline kicked in and I ran a lot of mile 3 in the low eights and high sevens. I averaged an 8:56, and a 9:04 because at the start of mile 3 I was still running slow and the midway through mile 4 I slowed back down. I stayed slow on mile 5 (9:44) pace, and then partway through mile 6 (8:52) pace I strated to pick it back up. I finished the last half of mile 6 at a (7:06) pace with a dip to 6:44 at the end. Overall it was kinda like a Fartlek except I just slowed down when I got tired instead of timing my sprints. The really cool thing is my legs were still a little tired from sunday but my breathing never got maxed out.

I'm on a short hiatus...my legs are taking a bit longer to recover from the 20 miler last week, and the 20 miler the week before, I didn't really feel it until after Weds run. But I woke up Thurs with two very tight calves and some plantar pain in my heal. So I've been stretching and getting my legs massaged (yesterday). So I may run tonite or wait for tomorrow. I don't wanna push it this close to the Salmon. No worries though its only 26.2 ;) lol

6.6 @ 9.20 AVP.
WTF 78 degrees 50% humidity...it wiped me out! Not really but I had the "quit" bug the last mile. Oh well everything felt ok. Until I got back to work and it was crazy busy and then Back to school night for the High Schooler...sounds so weird.

So I slept last night with a "night brace" for my left foot. On Weds I woke up and my heel was in pain..worse than before. I think I'm still in the beginning stages because after it warms up I can usually walk fine with no pain. I also can run usually with no pain. It's after the run in the morning that it hurts. I'm gonna take it easy til Salmon with some light runs and plenty of stretching. If its not one thing it's another..lol, I should started this weird running attraction when I was in my 20's. But then there was too much partying to be done.
